Grid Rebuild Drives Super-cycle Job Growth

The United States is commencing its largest power infrastructure construction and grid modernization in years, with all-time-high investment. In 2024, electric utilities invested a record $174–179 billion, 42% of which was allocated to transmission and distribution systems. Investor-owned utilities alone added another $178 billion to the system. According to the 2026 Power and Utilities Industry Outlook report from Deloitte, plans for 2025-2029 include more than $1.1 trillion in additional capital expenditures.

Comment Period Extended - Overhaul of SBA for Electrical Contractors

NECA successfully secured a 60 day extension of the comment period for the Small Business Administration’s proposed overhaul of the U.S. small business classification system. This delay allows for additional time to share views and data on how these changes may impact entrepreneurship and access to federal resources, including in the electrical industry. Reminder: Access Your MLU Subscription

The 2025-2027 edition of the NECA Manual of Labor Units is now available and every NECA member receives a complimentary copy! The primary contact for each NECA member company, or the individual designated to receive MLU access, received an email on Thursday, September 17 from NECA with instructions for activating a two-year subscription to the 2025-2027 edition. The subscription includes full access to the online labor units database and an electronic copy of the Manual. Contact [email protected] with any questions.

Safety Professionals Conference Proposals Due October 23

NECA is still seeking speakers for the NECA Safety Professionals Conference, May 24-26, 2027, in Verona, NY. Sessions run 75 minutes across six tracks, from NFPA 70E to Health & Well-Being to the Future of Safety. Detailed criteria, expectations and important dates can be found on the proposal submission page below. Proposals are due October 23, 2026.
