April 2026 eSafetyLine Safety Minute

OSHA announced the launch of its Safety Champions Program, a new cooperative initiative designed to help employers develop and implement effective safety and health programs. The program meets businesses where they are on their pathway to safety and health success and encourages them to take proactive steps with a philosophy of continuous improvement to prevent workplace injuries, illnesses, and fatalities.

OSHA also has issued a letter of interpretation clarifying whether injuries resulting from the use of personal rechargeable lithium-ion batteries in the workplace should be recorded as work-related on the OSHA Forms 300, 301, and 300-A or equivalent forms. If a work-related injury caused by a lithium-ion battery meets one or more of the general recording criteria in Section 1904.7 of the Recording and Reporting Occupational Injuries and Illnesses standard, it must be recorded on the OSHA logs.

The 7th annual National Stand-Down to Prevent Struck-by Incidents is set for April 20-24, 2026, focusing on "Safe Actions Save Lives." Struck-by incidents are the 2nd leading cause of death among construction workers, and the leading cause of nonfatal injuries in the construction industry. The event runs simultaneous with National Work Zone Safety Week.

As a result, this month's safety topic addresses Struck-By Hazards. Struck-by hazards are one of OSHA's "Fatal Four" construction risks. They occur when a worker is hit by a moving, falling, swinging, or flying object. In case you missed it, the March eSafetyline talks will discuss forklift and industrial truck safety.

Subscribers will also find new links to free webinars on OSHA’s General Duty Clause, Chemical Safety, Safety Metrics and PSIFs, as well as other on-demand topics. For a complete list of monthly updates and support for your safety program, subscribe to eSafetyLine by visiting the NECA store.
