Newest Addition to the NECA Family of Podcasts: ‘NECA Safety Roundup’

Mar 8, 2023

The NECA Risk Management department has been working towards a safety podcast for the better part of a year, and now that time has finally arrived. On March 10th, Executive Director of Safety Wes Wheeler and Executive Director of Outside Line Safety Mike Starner will release the inaugural episode of the ‘NECA Safety Roundup’ podcast. Both Executive Directors use the first episode to introduce listeners to NECA member resources in terms of assistance the national staff can provide for all areas of electrical construction. As Starner and Wheeler set the groundwork for what this podcast intends to explore, the basic message includes everything from chapter and contractor support, to outreach and regulatory aid.

Throughout the monthly series, Wheeler and Starner will welcome guests onto the podcast to talk about specific topics within electrical construction safety. Some of these guests include safety directors from other trade associations such as MCAA, SMACNA and TAUC. The Alliance Safety Directors will gather to discuss safety issues each industry is facing and obstacles all fields are facing collectively. In a separate episode, Human Resources professional Keith Wheeler will join the show to talk with the hosts about the similarities between HR and Safety, the risk relationship. A goal is to familiarize the audience with laws and policies that spread into both departments, such as OSHA, FLSA, Immigration, FACTA, Title VII, ADA, FMLA, Workers Comp, Leaves and Return-to-Work procedure. Other episode topics revolve around protective cover, safety leadership, OSHA and Safety training practices, JSAs, HSAs and job briefings as well as incident investigation.

The NECA Safety Roundup will release one episode per month on the second Friday of every month. The podcast is intended to be as clear and informational as possible while still holding a conversational tone. This open structure creates about 20 minutes of cross-dialogue per episode. That content can be accessed audibly through any podcast service, such as Apple Podcasts and Google Podcasts, by simply searching ‘NECA Safety Roundup’. The audience can also view the video version of the podcast on NECA’s Vimeo website at www.vimeo.com/necanet. NECA’s two other podcasts can also be accessed through Apple and Google podcasts along with episodes from former podcasts like NECA Live.
