The inaugural Diversity, Equity & Inclusion and Belonging Summit took place from May 2-3, 2022, successfully bringing together NECA Task Force Members at the National Museum of African American History and Culture. Discussion content focused on diversity leadership, bystander intervention, and bias, allowing NECA members to gain a clearer awareness of diversity and identify tools to foster it in the workplace. Celebrating differences and building belonging, Dr. Rubin Cockrell, award-winning international speaker, author, entrepreneur and professor, spoke to the group about his experience and expertise.
The DEI&B Summit is a critical part of the work to accelerate DEI&B progress here at NECA. We ended the Summit by urging all Task Force Members not to allow the event to simply serve as a checkbox for themselves and the Task Force. The new tools, connections, and understanding each person receives must be taken and transformed into action, whether that is a commitment to a policy change, a new community partnership, the creation of a website, an award program, etc. Carrying the momentum forward is essential to driving diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in our industry.
