NECA Names Steve Allred as Field Representative, Eastern Region

Aug 16, 2021

The National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) announced it has named Steve Allred as Field Representative, Eastern Region, effective November 1, 2021.

Allred has served as the Executive Director for the West Virginia–Ohio Valley Chapter, NECA, since 2001. He began his career in the electrical construction industry in 1979 as an Apprentice Wireman for IBEW Local 466 in Charleston, West Virginia. For the next several years he served the industry in various capacities within the IBEW, including becoming involved in local legislative issues as a lobbyist. In 1993, he was asked by then-West Virginia Governor Gaston Caperton to serve as the West Virginia State Wage and Hour Director. In March 1997, newly elected Governor Cecil H. Underwood appointed Allred to the position of Commissioner of Labor for the State of West Virginia, where he served until he began his role as Executive Director.

Active in his community, Allred works with mission teams in surrounding states to help promote programs for underprivileged children in local schools. A Christmas Backpack Program, which he initiated in Southern West Virginia, helps to provide school supplies, clothes, toys, and food to children in need. For Christmas 2020, over 2,000 backpacks “Full of Love” were distributed to 16 area schools. Also, for over 42 years, Allred has worked as an active high school football official.

“Steve Allred has been an advocate for the electrical construction industry his entire career, and has been an asset to the association for the last 20 years at the West Virginia–Ohio Valley Chapter,” said Kevin Tighe, NECA Vice President of Labor Relations and Field Service. “We are excited to welcome him to our Field Service team, where he will be able to take his wealth of knowledge and position our Chapters and members for present and future success.”

“As our Field Service team works on the front lines every day, Steve Allred is perfectly positioned to apply his decades of experience to this Field Representative role,” said NECA CEO David Long. “With his background as a longtime IBEW electrician and NECA Chapter Executive Director, I believe he is the perfect fit to work with our Chapters, members, and IBEW colleagues all across the Eastern Region. Not only does he know all sides of our industry, but he also knows the region exceptionally well.”
