1. COVID Relief Bill Fails in the Senate
On September 8, the Senate returned from the district work period and Senate Republican Leadership introduced a new COVID Relief amendment dubbed the “skinny” bill.
NECA’s Look Ahead: The bill was blocked by Senate Democrats in a 52-47 vote and did not proceed. NECA continues to work with both chambers to find a solution for the Phase IV relief bill to proceed forward along with funding the government before the end of September to avoid a government shutdown. A full summary of the Senate bill can be found here.
2. NECA Urges Congress to Reauthorize the FAST Act
On September 9, NECA sent a letter to Congressional leadership urging reauthorization of
Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act (FAST ACT) before it expires on September 30. This reauthorization is needed to secure funding for national infrastructure investment, including the Highway Trust Fund.
NECA’s Look Ahead: NECA will continue to monitor this issue as the September deadline approaches. We will be sure to keep contractors up to date on any information regarding this reauthorization and how it will impact the industry.
