Ohio NECA-IBEW Labor Management OSHA Partnership Renewed for Five Years
On September 11, 2019 the representatives of the Columbus Area OSHA Office, the Central Ohio Chapter of National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA), IBEW Local Union 683 of Columbus, Ohio, and IBEW Local Union 1105 of Newark, Ohio, signed a continuing safety partnership agreement for a period of five (5) years.
On July 11, 2002, these four (4) entities formed the first of its kind partnership committed to electrical safety. This partnership was the first Labor-Management-OSHA Partnership in the country. It is now the longest running partnership. The partnership is still making a difference on the jobsites. The participating NECA member electrical contractors and the IBEW represented electricians and technicians comply with the Occupational Safety and Health Act and adhere to the tenets of the National Fire Protection Association’s (NFPA) 70E. To work for the participating employers, the electricians and technicians must have OSHA 10 and NFPA 70E training. All Foremen must have completed OSHA 30 training. The Employers must have strong safety programs and are subject to an occasional random OSHA audit.
The partnership has been successful in fostering the development of a safety culture supported by the participating employers and their IBEW represented workforce. The Central Ohio Chapter and IBEW Local Unions 683 & 1105 are proud of this partnership with the Columbus Area OSHA Office.
