NECA Chicago & Cook County and Northeastern Illinois Chapters Held Joint NFPA 70E Safety Seminar
The Chicago & Cook County Chapter, NECA and the Northeastern Illinois Chapter, NECA held a joint Safety Forum on Thursday, October 3, 2019 at the Local Union #701 Hall / Training Facility in Warrenville, Illinois. The session was facilitated by Michael Johnson, Executive Director NECA Standards and Safety, James Dollard, Safety Coordinator for the Philadelphia Electrical JATC and Palmer Hickman, electrical training ALLIANCE.
The course was geared for Contractors, office staff and those personnel in supervisory roles and provided an overview of the use and arrangement of the NFPA 70E-2018 Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace. Participants discussed the significant revisions within the 2018 edition, as well as electrical hazards, guidelines to energized vs. de-energized work and decision making. Topics discussed also included understanding and applying effective lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, selection and application of appropriate PPE and the supervisor’s responsibility for jobsite safety.
Following this class, participants will be able to:
- Identify concepts and requirements contained in NFPA 70E-2018
- Describe the generally recognized hazard of electrical work
- Discuss the needed personal protective equipment within arc flash and arc blast boundaries
- Discuss potential electrical hazards in the workplace
- Explain the supervisor’s responsibility to jobsite safety
