The site navigation utilizes arrow, enter, escape, and space bar key commands. Left and right arrows move across top level links and expand / close menus in sub levels. NECA Legislative Top Three 8/2/19: Highway Bill Driving Towards Senate Floor

1. Senate Committee Passes $287 Billion Highway Bill

On July 30, 2019, the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works (EPW), Chaired by Senator John Barrasso (R-WY), passed a historic highway funding bill, America’s Transportation Infrastructure Act of 2019 (S. 2302). This NECA-supported legislation passed the committee by a vote of 21-0.

NECA’s Look Ahead: The bill is the largest highway bill ever passed by EPW, authorizing $287 billion over five years, including $259 billion for formula programs to maintain and repair America’s roads and bridges. The total represents an increase of over 27 percent from FAST Act levels. NECA commends the committee for addressing the issue of Infrastructure funding long before the FAST Act expires, however we are urging lawmakers to consider pay-for options. The bill currently remains unfunded. NECA will continue to advocate for comprehensive infrastructure investment and urge this legislation to move forward.

2. Meet with Your Member of Congress During the August Recess

Congress has begun its historic annual August recess from votes and hearings. This four-week tradition became law as a result of the Legislative Reorganization Act Of 1970. Now is the time to set up a meeting to meet with your Senators and Representative!

NECA’s Look Ahead: During the month of August, members of Congress work out of their local district offices. This is the perfect time of year to schedule follow up meetings with your Representatives. Also, many Members of Congress use the August recess to tour local businesses or job sites in their districts. The NECA Government Affairs team is a resource that can help arrange these in-district meetings.
