NECA Chapter, Electrical Contractors to Take Part in Women's Career Fair in Portland

May 17, 2019

Skilled workers including members of the electrical construction industry are taking part in a career fair for tradeswomen today and tomorrow in Portland.

The Oregon Tradeswomen’s 2019 Career Fair offers workshops and exhibits staffed by volunteers who bring a passion to their work. They are encouraging women and young girls to consider opportunities in nontraditional fields such as construction and energy.

The event is being held at the NECA-IBEW Electrical Training Center in the area. The National Electrical Contractors Association’s Oregon-Columbia Chapter is one of the sponsors.

Skilled workers like electricians are in high demand across the U.S., but there is a major labor shortage that events like career fairs help solve. Representatives of the local NECA chapter and electrical contractors who share their stories help in the recruitment process

“This event brings together fundamental resources for people who want to work in the trades, including information on how to access debt-free career training and opportunities for paid, on-the-job learning,” said Mary Ann Naylor, Communications and Marketing Director at Oregon Tradeswomen told the local NBC affiliate.

Part of the agenda over two days includes speaking to students at their schools today and interacting with the public tomorrow for Careers for Women Day.
