During his second State of the Union address, President Donald Trump urged bipartisan action to invest in our nation’s infrastructure. His discussion points centered on three key principles: 1. Building a 21st century infrastructure for all Americans; 2. Addressing the state of disrepair and upgrading our existing systems, and 3. the American people resoundingly support increased infrastructure investment.
The President touted his economic record, saying that he has delivered on his promise to reignite the American economy and usher in a new economic boom. He went on to cite some statistics to back his claims, including that 5.3 million jobs have been created since his election, he has cut a record number of job-killing regulations, and that wages are increasing at their fastest pace since 2009.
He also touched on other themes, such as protecting American workers who have been hurt by decades of flawed trade policy; lowering the costs of healthcare and prescription drugs; reaffirming his determination to stop illegal immigration, human trafficking, and the flow of drugs and crime; and, called for the creation of nationwide paid family leave.
In response to the State of the Union address, NECA CEO John M. Grau released a statement, which was published by the White House along with statements from elected officials and other industry leaders. NECA is encouraged by the President’s message of bipartisan unity to tackle the major challenges facing our country, and we are particularly happy to hear President Trump’s commitment to an infrastructure package. NECA will continue to work with the Administration and Congressional leaders wherever possible on this much needed and long overdue infrastructure legislation.
