The site navigation utilizes arrow, enter, escape, and space bar key commands. Left and right arrows move across top level links and expand / close menus in sub levels. Up and Down arrows will open main level menus and toggle through sub tier links. Enter and space open menus and escape closes them as well. Tab will move on to the next part of the site rather than go through menu items.
The electrical industry is entering an era of rapid technological convergence. Limited-energy systems increasingly intersect with power, communications, information technology, building systems, and cybersecurity—creating new opportunities while challenging traditional terminology, responsibilities, and work practices.
This forward-looking presentation will examine how the 2026 edition of the National Electrical Code® (NEC®) and the planned 2029 NEC reorganization may shape the industry’s approach to emerging technologies. Corey Hannahs, Electrical Technical Lead with NFPA, and Kyle Krueger, Executive Director, Technical & Regulatory Affairs with NECA, will discuss the evolution of limited-energy systems, the growing influence of IT and cybersecurity, and the importance of adapting to change without losing the clarity, safety, and practical guidance the industry depends on.
The 2029 NEC reorganization aims to modernize a document structure that has remained largely unchanged since 1937, helping ensure that the Code continues to fulfill its vital safety mission. By creating a framework that can better accommodate new technologies and installation methods, the reorganization is intended to organize requirements in a more logical, easy-to-follow format. This updated structure will help the NEC keep pace with the rapidly changing electrical installation landscape and support safe installations as society’s demand for electrification continues to grow.
Attendees will gain a clearer understanding of the changes on the horizon, the forces driving them, and the mindset needed to remain agile in a rapidly changing digital era. The session will emphasize practical preparation, informed engagement, and confidence that modernization and continuity can work together.
Kyle Krueger

Kyle Krueger started in the electrical construction industry in 1997, working his way to the level of Journeyman Wireman, and ultimately obtaining his Master Electrician License in 2004. In 2005 he accepted a position with the City of Milwaukee as a Commercial Electrical Inspector, and in 2010 Kyle started teaching evening code classes for the local JATC’s continuing education program. From there Kyle knew he could truly make a difference in the electrical industry through education and contractor support. In 2013 he was hired on as the Milwaukee Electrical JATC’s Continuing Education Coordinator and the Milwaukee Chapter, NECA’s Code Consultant/Safety Director.
In 2016 Kyle was honored with an appointment to the NECA National Codes and Standards Committee, where he represents NECA as a principal member of: Code Making Panel 3 for the NEC ™, and Correlating Committee for NFPA 72. He has been an active member of the WI Chapter of the International Association of Electrical Inspectors (IAEI) serving on their board of directors for the last 7 years, with the honor of representing the organization as their current president.
