Rethinking Power Distribution: Comparing Fault-Managed Power and Traditional AC Systems in High-Performance Data Centers
As data centers push toward higher densities, lower energy losses, and improved uptime, power distribution architecture has become a critical design decision. This session discusses the findings of the white paper A Comparison of Fault Managed Power (FMP) and Traditional AC Distribution in High Performance Data Centers, highlighting how Class 4 FMP systems differ fundamentally from conventional AC approaches. We will explore efficiency impacts, safety mechanisms, installation practices, scalability, fault response behavior, and the role of digital power in supporting next-generation AI and HPC workloads. Attendees will gain a clear technical understanding of where FMP offers advantages, where AC remains appropriate, and how hybrid AC/DC strategies may shape the future of data-center power delivery.
