Michael Burnham

Michael Burnham, CSP, joined McPhee Electric, a Phalcon USA company, as safety director in September, 2024. Burnham has a BA in Politics from Saint Anselm College and an MS in adult education from Fordham University. He also holds a CUSP certificate and is an OSHA-authorized trainer for general industry. Articles he's authored or co-authored include an evaluation of zero as a safety target, the role of sustainability in the safety profession, and the importance of job briefs to utility job sites. In addition, Burnham has delivered presentations to industry groups on a variety of topics, including a review of major safety theories, principles of adult education, the future of electronic job briefs, situational awareness, and Human and Organizational Performance (HOP). Burnham worked for six and a half years at Avangrid, serving first as a safety manager and then as senior director of EHS. Before that, he worked for seven and a half years at Riggs Distler & Company, where he was risk manager and head of the safety group, and at National Grid, where he spent seven years in Human Resources followed by eight years in safety. Burnham lives in Middletown, CT, with his wife and has two sons currently in college.
