NECA Names 2016 National Award Winners

Each year, the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) presents the following awards to members of the association and the industry in recognition of their outstanding contributions, industry leaders are recognized at the annual convention and trade show

Three member-contractors, along with a NECA chapter executive and NECA Premier Partner Thomas & Betts, will be recognized as winners of the association’s 2016 national awards at the NECA 2016 Boston convention & trade show

  • Coggeshall Award:

    This award was established in 1956 as a result of a bequest to the association by Allan Coggeshall to honor a member of NECA who is adjudged to have made an outstanding contribution to the progress of the industry in the technical and training service field.

    John S. Frantz

    Sidney Electric Company, Sidney, OH

    Frantz has served the Western Ohio Chapter, NECA, as a chapter officer for 11 years and as chapter governor since 2007. He has served in the industry for over 35 years, with 16 years coming as chairman/committee member of the Lima Area Electrical JATC and 12 years as a member of the board of directors.

  • Comstock Award:

    This award was established by action of the Board of Governors in 1959 in honor of L.K. Comstock to honor any person who is adjudged to have made an outstanding contribution to the industry through the association in the field of labor relations.

    Hermon Milton
    Buffalo Electric in Baker, LA

    Milton, of Buffalo Electric in Baker, LA, has served the Baton Rouge Chapter, NECA. Milton has served on the chapter’s board of directors for 38 years and governor for 31 of those years. He has been a strong voice for unionized electrical work among the industrial plant managers and owners along the Gulf Coast and the lower Mississippi River.

  • McGraw Award:

    This award was established in 1926 by the McGraw Committee of Awards and is presented to a person from the electrical contracting industry who is adjudged to have made a contribution to the industry of some new and useful idea or to have performed an industry service over and above his/her normal responsibilities to his/her own or company's progress.

    Sonja Rheaume
    Christenson Electrical & Technology Services in Portland, OR.

    Rheaume is a member of the Oregon-Columbia Chapter, NECA. She active within the association, co-chairing Future Leaders (2014-2016) and Women In NECA (2015-2016). She also has been a member of the ELECTRI Program Review Committee for the past two years.

  • Association Executive Distinguished Service Award:

    This award was established in l989 by NECA's Board of Governors. The award is to be presented to the staff executive or chapter manager who has made the greatest contribution to the advancement of the association either in a specific year or over a period of time.

    Bruce Creen
    Executive Director, Northeastern Illinois Chapter, NECA

    Bruce A. Creen, executive director of the Northeastern Illinois Chapter, NECA, has won the Association Executive Distinguished Service Award. The award is presented to the staff executive or chapter manager who has made the greatest contribution to the advancement of NECA. Creen has worked for NECA for 29 year, starting as a staff associate in the Midwest Region.
  • Industry Partner Award:

    In January, 1996, NECA’s Executive Committee approved the creation of an award to recognize individuals or organizations allied with the electrical construction industry whose decisions, actions, or cooperation with NECA contribute to the industry’s success.

    Thomas & Betts

    Thomas & Betts is a designer and manufacturer of connectors and components for electrical and communication markets based in Memphis, TN. Thomas and Betts was founded in 1898 by two young engineers from Princeton University, Robert M. Thomas and Hobart D. Betts. Thomas & Betts has been active as a partner of the Electrical Training ALLIANCE, a contributor to ELECTRI and a frequent exhibitor at the NECA Show, and it joined the NECA Premier Partner program in 2012.
