NECA welcomes Sen. John Isakson (R-GA) as a confirmed keynote speaker on Wednesday, May 7 at 8:30 am at the National Legislative Conference, Washington, D.C.
A native of Atlanta, Senator Isakson graduated from the University of Georgia in Athens in 1966. He went on to serve in the Georgia Air National Guard from 1966-1972 as a Staff Sergeant. In 1967 he founded Northside Reality of which he served as president from 1967-1987. Isakson was a member of the Georgia state general assembly from 1976-1990. Three years later he joined the Georgia state senate before chairing the Georgia board of education in 1996. Later in 1996 Isakson became chief executive officer of Fairgreen Capital, LLP where he served until his election to congress in 1999.
Isakson was elected to the One Hundred Sixth Congress by special election when U.S. Representative Newt Gingrich declined to take his seat. Reelected twice more, Isakson was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1999-2005. In 2004 he was elected to the U.S. Senate and in 2010 was reelected securing his place in the senate until 2017. Isakson is currently a member of several committees which include Finance; Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions; Select Committee on Ethics; Subcommittee on Children and Families; Subcommittee on Employment and Workplace Safety; Subcommittee on Energy, Natural Resources, and Infrastructure; Subcommittee on International Trade, Customs, and Global Competitiveness; Subcommittee on Social Security, Pensions, and Family Policy; and Veteran’s Affairs.
