NECA welcomes Rep. Dan Lipinski (D-IL) as a confirmed keynote speaker on Thursday, May 8 at 8:30 am, at the National Legislative Conference, Washington, D.C.
BEFORE CONGRESS
A native of Chicago, Illinois, Rep. Dan Lipinski is the son of former representative William Lipinski. The younger Lipinski graduated from Northwestern University before completing his masters at Stanford University and receiving his PhD from Duke University. He would go on to teach political science at the University of Notre Dame and the University of Tennessee before following his father into politics.
CONGRESSMAN
Lipinski worked on Capitol Hill for several congressmen as an aide and, in 2004, took over his retiring father’s seat as the representative of Illinois’ third congressional district. Since being in office, Lipinski’s focus has been on environmental and transportation issues. Considered a conservative democrat, Lipinski has shown he’s willing to work with the other side of the aisle. One project championed by Lipinski was co-sponsored by a republican and required energy-saving light bulbs in some federal buildings. Since becoming a member of Congress, Lipinski has served on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, a position once held by his father.
