NECA Legislative Top Three 11/2/18: Workforce Development Opportunities for All

Nov 02, 2018

1. NECA Heads to the White House to Discuss Workforce Development

On October 31, 2018, NECA contractors visited the White House to join President Trump, Ivanka Trump, and Director of the National Economic Council Larry Kudlow to participate in a discussion on the nation’s growing economy and the Administration’s comprehensive workforce development efforts to ensure more Americans have the skills necessary to succeed. The president will be announcing that his Pledge to America’s Workers program has now grown to over 160 companies planning to create over 6.3 million career opportunities.

NECA’s Look Ahead: NECA is honored to continue to work with the President on this initiative and to show the value of work earned by the construction trades. This pledge has brought about a renewed interest in the approved apprenticeship program and NECA is working to cultivate that interest further.

2. NECA Meets with DOT on Hours of Service Regulation

photo On October 31, 2018, NECA attended a high level meeting at the Department of Transposition with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Administrator Raymond P. Martinez and Deputy Administrator Cathy F. Gautreaux. The meeting centered around examining a construction industry exception to the Hours of Service regulation.

NECA’s Look Ahead: The meeting was the first in a new series of meetings with DOT in conjunction with legislative meetings with key stakeholders in both the House and Senate. NECA will continue to advocate for an industry wide exemption and will keep our membership updated as progress continues.

3. Get Out and Vote!

NECA encourages everyone to get out and vote this election season. Elections across this country matter to our industry and our daily efforts here on the ground in Washington, D.C.
