Long-Term Highway Bill Passes; Brings Much-Awaited Stability

Dec 07, 2015

The House and Senate agreed to a five-year, $305 billion measure to fund highways and mass-transit projects. The NECA-supported bill, which is the first long-term highway bill in over a decade, passed December 3, 2015 with large bipartisan support. The House approved the bill by a 359-65 vote and the Senate later passed the measure by a 83-16 vote. In a letter to the full Congress, NECA joined with our Transportation Construction Coalition partners in supporting this legislation.
A long-term highway bill has been one of NECA's top priorities, making this bill a huge win for our contractors. Enactment of this legislation will bring much-awaited stability to federal, state and local planners' ability to commit resources to our nation's transportation needs. All told, this law will result in more transportation construction projects and more opportunities for NECA contractors. President Obama is expected to sign the legislation as soon as December 4.
