Electric vehicle ownership is on the rise. Constructing a capable electric vehicle charging infrastructure is front and center as tremendous opportunities for electrical contractors and the industry. With those opportunities a few challenges are beginning to emerge. This session provides the essential elements of electrical vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) installation consistent with achieving safe, sound, and successful growth of the EV market. It reviews essential requirements for contractor site assessments to ensure system capacity of electrical power sources and electric service. A review of evolving rules in the NEC that must be applied to EVSE installations is provided along with the responsibilities of electrical contractors and installers performing EVSE installation. In addition, recent surveys have indicated concerns and expectations from owners and operators of electric vehicles. Just as important as building an adequate charging infrastructure is ensuring that effective service and maintenance operations keep the charging systems operational. A high-level review of How the Codes and Standards are evolving to correlate in application to these installations and systems.
