On July 17, 2017, the Penn-Del-Jersey Chapter attended a roundtable discussion with Rep. Lloyd Smucker (R-PA) and Rep. Virginia Fox (R-NC) in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
Rep. Smucker, who represents constituents in Lancaster, Berks and Chester Counties, serves on the US House Committee on the Budget, the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, and the Committee on Education and the Workforce. Congresswoman Foxx is the Chair of the Committee on Education and the Workforce. Their combined influence on the Education and Workforce Committee makes them particularly instrumental on policy that affects our industry’s apprentice programs, labor relations, safety procedures, and pension funds.
The discussion provided many insights into the Committee’s work on curbing excessive regulations in the construction industry and its initiatives to improve our nation’s apprenticeship programs. Chairwoman Foxx also gave a response to NECA’s top issue, multiemployer pension reform, insisting that multiemployer pension reform was a pressing issue in her Committee.
