NECA Reaffirms NEIS, NECA 1 Standard for Good Workmanship in Electrical Construction

NECA 1-2015 Standard for Good Workmanship in Electrical Construction is now available from the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA).

NECA 1 is the flagship National Electrical Installation Standard (NEIS) that describes what is meant by installing equipment in a “neat and workmanlike manner” as required by the National Electrical Code (NEC), Section 110.12. This is precisely what the NEIS program is all about.

NEIS are the only quality and performance standards for electrical construction. The NEIS go beyond the minimum requirements in the NEC and address quality and performance criteria that are important to construction specifies and owners. NECA 1 was the first NEIS developed by NECA to effectively address what constitutes good electrical workmanship in all aspects of electrical work. This is very important to the customers of NECA members.

As with all NEIS, engineers and designers can rest assured that by referring to NECA 1 from plans and specifications they are establishing the confidence that owners seek relative to quality. NEIS standard also continue to be a valuable resource by addressing many “how” to issues related to installing and maintaining this type of equipment.

With their installation detail, illustrations, and thorough explanations, NEIS are also a valuable training tool for the electrical industry. The NEIS are regularly and meticulously revised and expanded to align with the latest technology and the current edition of the NEC in addition to other applicable standards.

“NECA’s National Electrical Installation Standards (NEIS®) library has grown over the years, and as new technologies emerge, the NEIS® evolve and keep pace,” stated Michael Johnston, NECA’s Executive Director of Standards and Safety. Johnston also emphasized that “the standards are constantly providing significant value to those in the electrical designing and engineering communities. The NEIS also help professionals in developing design specifications in that they reduce and often eliminate specification writing time.”

This edition of NECA 1 is enhanced with more photos of quality installations for exacting detail. Order your 2015 edition of NECA 1 today and join the industry in practice of providing good workmanship in electrical construction. Your customers will know the difference.
