The National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) Appoints 2015 Officers

NECA Welcomes New Officers in 2015

The following officers were elected at the recent Board of Governors meeting in Chicago, IL on September 27, 2014. Elected for two-year terms in office, the three newly appointed vice presidents began their service on January 1, 2015; David A. Hardt began his 3-year term of service as NECA president on January 1, 2015, replacing former-president, Dennis Quebe.

DAVID A. HARDT

David A. Hardt, President 

Hardt Electric, Inc. Chicago, IL, joined NECA in 1975 and has been on the National Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (NJATC) executive committee for two years, and served as NECA's district IV Vice President for four years. In 2007 he was honored with the Coggeshall Award, for outstanding contribution to the progress of the industry in the Technical and Training Service field. Hardt is a longtime member of NECA's Political Leadership Council (PLC), and is a fellow of the Academy of Electrical Contracting.

DANIEL B. WALSH

Daniel B. Walsh, District 2 Vice President

United Electric Company, Inc., Louisville, KY. Walsh is president of United Electric. He entered the industry in 1971 working in the warehouse for United Electric and serving an apprenticeship from 1975–1979. He became a foreman in 1980 and a general foreman in 1984. Also that year, he began travelling for the company as a superintendent, installing automotive conveying systems. He transitioned into the office in 1987 to manage the estimating and project management for United’s automotive division. He managed or installed projects in 15 states, as well as Mexico and Canada. In 1998, Walsh assumed responsibility for all projects and became president in 2000. He has also been an apprentice trainer for the company.

GLORIA ASHFORD

Gloria Ashford, District 6 Vice President

Ashford Electric & Construction Company Kirkland, WA. Ashford has been the President of Ashford Electric & Construction Co. for the entirety of the company’s nearly 30 years of serving the greater Puget Sound region of Washington State. Ashford has been an electrical contractor for 27 years. Ashford Electric & Construction Company is 100 percent woman-owned and a state-certified Women’s Business Enterprise. Her specialty markets include wastewater treatment facilities and other water-control infrastructure. Appointed by Gov. Gary Lock, Gloria served for 12 years on the Washington State Electrical Board, five of which were as chair.

Tom Halpin

Halpin 8-2014

Tom Halpin, District 10 Vice President

Haugland Energy, LLC Plainview, NY. Halpin is vice president of operations for Haugland Energy. He is a second generation lineman and contractor, following in the footsteps of his father, Thomas L. Halpin, who was a lineman for a local utility and owned a part-time line construction business on the south shore of Massachusetts. Tom earned a degree in business management from Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts. After graduation, he returned home to help expand Halpin Line Construction into a successful company of more than 150 employees. He owned and operated the business until it was sold to the Haugland Group, where he gained executive experience with a company that employs more than 1,200 workers.
