Electrical Contractors Hails Agreement to Repeal the 40% "Cadillac Tax"

Dec 23, 2019

The Chief Executive Officer of the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA), David Long, issued the following statement in reaction to the repeal of the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA’s) 40 percent “Cadillac Tax”:

“I commend congressional leaders on including the full repeal of the 40 percent “Cadillac Tax” in the end-of-year funding package. This agreement marks a big victory for our contractors and our organization as we have been fighting implementation of this tax since 2010. NECA contractors are proud to invest in their employees by providing quality, affordable healthcare coverage. With the repeal of this tax, our contractors will save billions of dollars that would have potentially been paid out to the federal government, rather than to health insurance coverage for the hundreds of thousands of hard-working men and women in the electrical trade.

Thank you to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy for their commitment to ensuring affordable health care coverage for Americans. I also offer our thanks to Senators Mike Rounds and Martin Heinrich and Representatives Joe Courtney and Mike Kelly for their long-standing support in Congress to fully repeal this tax.

Our contractors greatly look forward to the House and Senate passing this year-end package and having President Trump sign the full repeal of the ‘Cadillac Tax.’”
