Electrical Contractors Say Senate Bill Will Ensure Payment Protections

Nov 21, 2019

The Chief Executive Officer of the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA), David Long, issued the following statement in reaction to the introduction of the Accelerated Payments for Small Business Act and Small Business Payment for Performance Act by Sen. Martha McSally (R-Ariz.):

“One thing is clear about the many challenges our contractors face every day: payment cycles are inconsistent and delayed for all industry participants. The impact of this is mostly felt by subcontractors, including electrical subcontractors, who provide the bulk of the short-term capital, yet have the least amount of leverage to change current practices. The bills introduced by Senator McSally will ensure NECA contractors get paid quicker and that they have the necessary cash flow to keep their businesses running smoothly. I thank her for her hard work on these issues I urge the Senate to act quickly on this legislation.”

NECA is the voice of the $171 billion electrical construction industry that brings power, light and communication technology to buildings and communities across the United States. NECA’s national office in Bethesda, Md. and 118 local chapters advance the industry through advocacy, education, research and standards development. Visit www.necanet.org/about for more information.
