The first day of NECA 2018 Philadelphia was exciting and exhausting. There was so much to see! We checked out some awesome pre-convention events, heard from a robotics and healthcare innovator, and ran up and down aisles on the show floor. We're eager for the next two days. Here are some highlights from the first day of NECA 2018.
Opening General Session
Toward the end of his speech at the Opening General Session at the NECA Convention and Trade Show in Philadelphia,Zipline
CEO Keller Rinaudo talked about the "moral failures" of every generation. He believes that, in 50 years, future generations will look back at our society today and see a world where basic medical supplies were not provided to a large portion of the population. His company is taking revolutionary steps to change that.
Apprentice Appreciation Day
On the first day of the 2018 NECA Trade Show and Convention, approximately 2,500 apprentices arrived by bus to fill an entire exhibition hall in the Pennsylvania Convention Center. The 2018 Apprentice Appreciation Day was a partnership between NECA's Penn-Del-Jersey Chapter and the area's local Joint Apprentice Training Centers.
Showstoppers First Impressions
One of the most popular places at the NECA Show is the Showstopper Showcase, a dedicated space on the trade show floor highlighting the newest products, technology and services on the market. A panel of tool experts and experienced electrical contractors judge the products on their safety, usefulness and practicality, while also looking for stand-out products that are unique and innovative. This year, the judges selected 22 products as 2018 Showstopper Showcase winners.
On the first day of NECA 2018 Philadelphia, the EC mag staff decided to check out some of the areas on the show floor where attendees can hear firsthand about the latest technologies, services and practices that can lead to a successful business. It isn't just about being high-tech; it's also about staying healthy.
Green Energy Challenge
Three exceptional NECA Student Chapters shared their projects at the ELECTRI International Green Energy Challenge at NECA 2018 Philadelphia at the Philadelphia Convention Center. And this year's competition featured a familiar result.
Safety Roundtable Discussion
At the opening of the NECA Show, the industry's leading safety experts came together for the annual NECA Safety Roundtable. The goal of the session was different from previous years. For this roundtable, NECA assembled many of its Premier Partners to share their organizations' safety philosophies and discuss how safety is integrated into their products and services. It was a forum to share ideas for safety between industry manufacturers and electrical contractors.
The big kick-off for every NECA Show is the opening reception. This year, the party was at the National Constitution Center, the only museum dedicated to the U.S. Constitution. Attendees were able to browse the more than 100 multimedia exhibits and 42 bronze statues of the Founding Fathers. As usual, Milwaukee Tool's Tool Shed Band also rocked the house, and party-goers were treated to open bars and cuisine, fortune tellers, caricatures and a rooftop view of the city.
