Introducing: a Concrete Roof that Generates Solar Power

Nov 02, 2017

There is something new under the sun thanks to a new creation combining solar technology and concrete fabrication. While roof-mounted solar panels are nothing new, this roof offers incredible efficiency and it costs a lot less than other solar roof technologies. Swiss researchers know the cost savings in their newly designed roof and are placing it on the penthouse of the living lab facility known as the NEST, at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich. Another promising and well-publicized design has been the Tesla solar roof introduced in the last year. Elon Musk is still projecting the finished Tesla roof to be effective and inexpensive providing a method of harnessing solar power for more homes than ever before.

More and more countries are investing in solar infrastructure and solar power as an increasingly viable way to produce energy. The UK startup Renovagen, LTD has developed very flexible, roll-up solar panels as another way that solar technology is being implemented. Just a decade ago, none of these solar/roof technologies had even been heard of. Creation and installation of such solar roofs is definitely in the wheel house of design and installation for ECs across NECA.
