Penn-Del-Jersey’s WIN Committee Off to a WIN-ning Start

Jul 24, 2013

On June 26 NECA’s Penn-Del-Jersey Chapter hosted its introductory Women In NECA (WIN) Committee Meeting.

The idea for a chapter committee blossomed when Natalie Linder, Black Box Network Services; Meagan Cunningham, West Side Hammer Electric; and Sarah Bennett, Penn-Del-Jersey Chapter attended the WIN Summit in St. Louis in March. Once they experienced what WIN at NECA National had to offer, they all agreed that a committee would be a great benefit on a chapter level.

“This is a unique opportunity for women in the construction industry to network and help one another turn struggles into successes,” Linder said on why she saw the value of a chapter committee.

Once these three women returned to the East Coast, they suggested that the chapter initiate a WIN membership drive. The chapter received an overwhelming response from over 30 women interested in joining a chapter WIN Committee.

The introductory meeting was a dynamic open discussion on issues women members were dealing with on a daily basis, including health insurance, time management, personal finance, and obtaining Women Business Enterprise certifications.

One highlight of the meeting included the remarks of Rachel Barber, VEC, Inc. and Chairwoman of National WIN. Barber provided a presentation on the formation of WIN at NECA National and the accomplishments she has witnessed the group achieve. Her presentation was information and delivered the right push to inspire the Penn-Del-Jersey WIN members to expect great results from the chapter committee in the future.

“It was an amazing experience to spend time with the women of the Penn-Del-Jersey Chapter,” Barber said. “They are already thinking about what issues affect the industry and how they can share information and experience. This is how WIN works best – when women come together on both the local and national level to support the professional development of industry women.”

The Chapter’s WIN Committee Co-Chairs, Cunningham and Linder, believe the Committee will increase in membership quickly. Cunningham states, “WIN welcomes all women in the industry from business owners to administrative staff. If we all work together, we will be able to achieve more faster.”

The Chapter plans on having several local meetings and hopes to encourage more members to join WIN at NECA National. Many of its members plan to attend the Women In NECA Roundtable at NECA 2013 Washington DC.
