NECA International Study Mission to Tour Switzerland

Mar 13, 2013

NECA sponsors International Study Missions to encourage the interchange of ideas, technologies, and best practices among contractors in the US and internationally. These organized annual trips bring US contractors into direct contact with the management and workforce of contracting firms in other countries. This year’s International Study Mission travels to Switzerland, September 14-24, 2013.

As a member of the European Association of Electrical Contractors (or AIE, the acronym for Association Européene de l’Installation Electrique), NECA has good contacts within the Swiss construction industry with whom we can discuss government regulations, bidding, training, materials, wage rates, and how economic conditions in the EU will impact construction business in the United States.

We are devoting a day to contractor meetings and construction site visits in Bern. In addition, a particularly exciting site visit is planned for Lucerne, where participants will travel to the top of Mt. Stanserhorn via the world’s first double-decker cable car, “Cabrio,” and then tour its unique state-of-the-art power plant.

Traveling through Switzerland by coach, rail and aerial gondolas, we’ll see flowery meadows, lush valleys, snowfields and magnificent mountain peaks. Switzerland’s cities are a wonderful blend of history and culture, gourmet cuisine, contemporary architecture and street markets. We begin in Bern, Switzerland’s capital. It’s a slow-paced, easygoing city famous for medieval sandstone arcades that line the old cobbled streets. Parliament will be in session so the town will be vibrant.

Next, we’ll spend three nights on Lake Lucerne, the geographical and spiritual heart of Switzerland. Surrounded by snow-capped peaks, Lucerne also has cobbled lanes, frescoed medieval guildhalls, art galleries and quirky shopping.

Our last stop in Switzerland is St. Moritz, known as the playground of the rich and famous. For those with a bit more time, you can cross the nearby border to Cernobbio, Italy, and visit the very grand Villa d’Este.

The hotels are deluxe and the cuisine might just be the best we have experienced in many years of NECA International S. Of course, we’ll taste cheese and discover many of the Movenpick ice cream shops that populate Switzerland.
