In an effort to give more information to our members and chapter executives nationwide, NECA will host a complimentary webinar addressing pension reform on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at 3:00pm EST.
The webinar will feature as our keynote speaker Josh Shapiro, Deputy Executive Director for Research and Education of the National Coordinating Committee on Multiemployer Plans (NCCMP). Mr. Shapiro will outline the details of the Commission's proposal and answer questions for participants.
Pension reform will be one of NECA’s top priorities during the 113th Congress, as the multiemployer funding rules contained in the Pension Protection Act of 2006 (PPA) will sunset on December 31, 2014. Over a year ago, the NCCMP created the Retirement Security Review Commission, a group of labor and management stakeholders (including NECA and the IBEW), subject matter experts, and actuaries tasked with crafting a realistic proposal that offers significant recommendations for comprehensive pension reform. The proposal addresses solutions for deeply troubled plans heading toward insolvency, includes technical provisions that will improve the current system and offers a new flexible plan design options aimed to reduce employers risk and eliminate withdrawal liabilities. In the coming months, NECA members and staff will continue to educate Congress on multiemployer pension plans as Congress begins to address the issue. Register Now >
