For the second year in a row, NECA member Abbott Electric Inc. of Canton, Ohio, ranked as the top electrical contractor in the state of Ohio in all three measured categories of energy saving for AEP's (American Electricap Power) Ohio customers. Measured categories included: number of energy saving projects performed, amount of electricity saved, and rebate dollars earned for their clients. AEP is one of the largest electric utilities in the U.S., serving over 5 million customers in 11 states.
During the past two years, Abbott performed over 90 energy-reduction projects, which collectively have saved these clients close to $1,000,000 annually in electricity costs. This performance data is what gained Abbott a Gold status with AEP Ohio, the only such Northeast Ohio company to achieve this status.
Abbott was also voted AEP Ohio’s preferred Solutions Provider for Northeast Ohio for the second year. The company was singled out for “consistently submitting complete application packages,” thus helping AEP customers secure the largest possible rebates in a timely manner.
In addition to the electricity savings, AEP Ohio contributed nearly $500,000 in cash rebates to the companies involved. Company president Mike Abbott said, “Nearly half of all office buildings and an even greater number of warehouse and factories are still using lighting systems that have been outdated for over a decade. Technology has provided us with lighting products that outperform their predecessors while saving up to half the energy. With the rebate dollars AEP is offering, most of our lighting projects pay for themselves in electricity savings in less than two years, making the decision to move forward with an upgrade a simple one."
