It’s easy to focus solely on work and give yourself a pass when it comes to healthy habits. Not only does productivity take a hit, so does overall health. This dynamic workshop will guide participants in their personal and workplace wellness journeys, teaching fundamental principles and hands-on, real-world learning and practices.  Dr. Kim will show how easy it is to fit wellness into busy workdays – one-step or byte at a time.  Attendees will be equipped with the knowledge, tools and a plan to stay healthy and feel balanced vis-à-vis healthy eating, restorative sleep, mindfulness and fitness. Participants will experience ways to integrate mind-body micro-breaks into busy workdays and leave with actionable steps to implement in everyday lives. This session includes take-home food and fitness energy booster tip sheets.


The workshop is designed as a holistic framework to employee well-being that underscores the importance of taking care of oneself. The core value is that of putting people first.  Develop oneself, develop employees, develop a healthy workplace culture that enhances employee performance, productivity and engagement.

SPEAKER BIO:

Dr. Kim helps organizations create a healthy and safe workplace culture.

She is President and Chief Exercise Officer of X bytes, a workplace wellness company that creates video stretch micro-breaks to optimize employee performance and reduce injuries.  Videos are part of a turnkey wellness program that includes information and consultation support.

Dr. Kim’s highly interactive wellness talks show how easy it is to fit wellness into busy workdays – one-step or byte at a time.  Trained in mindfulness based stress reduction and a professional member of the National Speakers Association, Dr. Kim has a Ph.D. in Behavioral Science & Health and a M.S. in Exercise/Health Studies. She was an adjunct professor in public health at the University of Toronto and York University, research scientist at Toronto teaching hospitals, and a National Cancer Institute of Canada postdoctoral fellow.  Dr. Kim lives in the Washington DC area with her husband, 2 teens, and a dog.

Learning Objectives:

  1. To learn ways to optimize work performance vis-à-vis personal wellness
  2. To experience mindfulness practices as a way to focus and stay calm
  3. To experience ways to easily integrate stretch breaks during the workday to stay alert, engaged and energized 

Outline:

The workshop is divided into four sections:

  • Food (energy boosters vs. zappers, superfoods)
  • Sleep (price & effects of sleep deprivation, benefits of sleep, sleep solutions for nighttime, work and travel)
  • Exercise: sitting is the new smoking (health hazards of chronic sitting), standing desks & mats; deskercises, chair abs, stretch and strength training exercises to “take a stand” against sitting at work
  • Mindfulness:  de-mystifies what mindfulness is and is not; mindfulness practices, mindful eating
