NECA 2020 Eastern Regional Conference (Postponed)

POSTPONED! Unfortunately, due to the current COVID-19 outbreak, NECA has made the difficult decision to postpone this event. Additional information regarding travel, refunds, and other issues related to the meeting will be sent via email to all registered attendees.

Full refunds are available prior to March 18, 2020. Refunds less than an administrative fee of $100 will be given for cancellations received in writing to katie@necanet.org prior to April 11, 2020.  Following this date, no refunds will be given.  However, you may send an alternate to the event without additional charge.

Getting There

The Villas of Amelia Island Plantation is located on Amelia Island in Northeast Florida, just across the St. Marys River from Georgia and adjacent to the historic city of Fernandina Beach. The resort overlooks the azure blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean on the east and the Intracoastal Waterway on the west.

By Air:
  • Jacksonville International Airport (29 miles)
  • Private and corporate aircraft charters can fly directly to Fernandina Beach Municipal Airport (4 miles)
By Car:


Take I-95 North to Exit 373 (Route A1A East). Go East 11.2 miles to Amelia Island Parkway, (turn right at 1st traffic light, just over Intracoastal Waterway Bridge). Go 3.4 miles to traffic light and turn right. Go .7 miles to the round-about and follow Route A1A South. Go 2.7 miles to resort entrance on the left, (third round-about on left). Follow signs to “Villa Check-In”.

    riseandshineOur morning will start with a breakfast at the hotel. Then we will travel to White Oak Plantation. Mornings are a great time to enjoy White Oak. The weather is cooler, the animals are active and the sun is still waking up. We invite you to experience something that many of us here at White Oak already know: that White Oak mornings are magical! Your morning begins with a tour of the conservation center (after supplying you with coffee, of course) during which wildlife experts will introduce you to our conservation programs, habitats, and some of the 35 species that call White Oak home, including rhino, giraffe, okapi, and cheetah.

About the Keynotes:

Keynote: Dr. Gustavo Grodnitzky
gustavo-featDr. Gustavo Grodnitzky is a speaker, consultant, psychologist, and author whose diverse background brings a unique and multidimensional perspective to his global clients. After obtaining his Ph. D. in clinical and school psychology, he completed post-docs in both cognitive therapy and forensic psychology. Dr. Grodnitzky will present on maximizing performance in an multi-generational workforce.

Dr. Gustavo's recent book, Culture Trumps Everything: The Unexpected Truth about the Ways Environment Changes Biology, Psychology, and Behavior, investigates the powerful ways that organizational culture impacts the creation of "quintessence" in organizations. It it is this quintessence - the balance of connectedness, trust, shared common language and time perspective in an organization's culture - that ultimately determines the success and sustainability of organizations. If we want to ensure the best possible outcomes for ourselves and our organizations, we must focus on developing an organizational culture that fosters quintessence - and leads to success for all stakeholders - because culture trumps everything.

Keynote: Karl Mecklenburg

mecklenburg-featKarl Mecklenburg rose from a college walk-on and twelfth round draft choice to an NFL career that included three Super Bowl and six Pro Bowl appearances. This former Bronco’s captain spent his entire twelve year career in Denver and makes Colorado his home now. Mecklenburg was arguably the most versatile player in the NFL playing all seven defensive front positions often in the course of a single game. Karl was selected as the AFC Linebacker of the Year, AFC player of the Year, and since retiring from the NFL has been enshrined in the Denver Broncos Ring of Fame and the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame. Mecklenburg has been a Pro Football Hall of Fame Semifinalist each of the last eight years. 

Mecklenburg is the only NFL legend to have earned the Certified Speaking Professional designation from the National Speakers Association. As an author and speaker Mecklenburg’s stories of teamwork and leadership are humorous and inspiring. He approaches his speaking career with the same intelligence, passion, and intensity that punctuated his great football career.

Keynote Alex Willis:

willis-featAlex Willis is a native of Jacksonville, Florida. He has a beautiful wife, Sabrina Willis of fifteen years and two little girls, Alexis and Aubrey. He graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor degree in Business Administration. He also received a Master’s degree in Entertainment Business from Full Sail University, where he was the Salutatorian of his class. Alex was a walk-on player for the Florida Gators and member of the 1996 National Championship football team. He later received a full scholarship and was elected team captain in 2000. He also played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers under Coach Tony Dungy.

Alex has excelled in Financial Services, Pharmaceutical Sales and Business Development. At Northwestern Mutual, Alex ranked 3rd in sales production for the Southern Region. He ranked 5th in the nation for Eli Lilly in marketing total portfolio sales. Alex has successfully raised over $1.5 million for startup companies and has been instrumental in setting strategy and vision for leadership within these companies. He has spent the last 15 years working with companies to improve the leadership culture within organizations. His company Leadership Surge values people over process, and focuses on a holistic, strengths-based approach to leadership. They create a fun, interactive, experiential learning environment for emerging leaders.
