NECA established the Project Excellence Awards to recognize member-contractors nationwide for exceptional commitment and ingenuity in delivering electrical projects across various sectors. Submissions for the 2024 awards will be accepted from March 4 to July 14, 2024, with eligibility for projects completed in 2023.


In the U.S., electrical contracting is an industry valued at over $225 billion annually, made up of over 70,000 electrical contracting firms employing over 650,000 electrical workers.

The Metropolitan Park 6,7,8 Core & Shell project is a 2,800,000 square foot project for Amazon’s Virginia headquarters. Installation of wireless and wired motion sensors, daylight harvesting, power sensing for emergency lighting, power distribution and emergency systems, main fire alarm networked control with over 3,000 addressable devices and over 3,500 notification devices two way communication systems. The project scope included core & shell and interior fit-out of two 22-story office buildings, retail space for 14 businesses and 2.5 acres of public space.

The team installed multiple 1.5 and 2 megawatt generators; one 2-megawatt generator has enough power to support 1600 average US households. Also installed 24 miles of mineral insulated feeder cable (422 football fields). More than 350 electrical tradespeople were involved in this build.
