2014 Chairman Challenge Contest:

JANUARY 1, 2014-DECEMBER 31, 2014

The Challenge: 

  • All NECA Chapters and Members encouraged to host Congressional visits at a member’s place of business, jobsite, or, NECA Chapter office.
  • The chapter who has the most visits by 12/31/14 wins the Chairman’s Challenge.

The Incentive: 

  • Bonus participation points to your contributor total for each Congressional visit.
  • Designed to help Chapters meet 50 percent member participation for their 2014 ECPAC goal

The Prize:

One free attendee registration for the 2015 NECA Legislative Conference and a special award to be presented at the conference.

    Meet with Your Representative During the August Recess


    Congress is now on break for the August recess. Now that your Senators and Representatives are home, now is the time for you to personally schedule meetings them and share NECA's top legislative priorities. The recess is a great opportunity for NECA chapters and contractors to arrange meetings with their local representatives, letting legislators know what NECA's concerns and priorities are before the end of the year.

    Take Action: Plan to Meet with Your Representative During the August Recess

    August Recess = Opportunity for NECA Chapters & Contractors

    Representatives will be returning home to their districts during the month of August while Congress is in recess. During the break, NECA encourages contractors to personally reach out and share NECA's top legislative priorities with members of Congress. The recess is a great opportunity for NECA chapters and contractors to arrange meetings with their local representatives, letting legislators know what NECA's concerns and priorities are before the end of the year.

    Getting Started:

    First, find your legislator and contact the district office to request a meeting.

    Meetings with Members of Congress are most successful when they are held at:
    • Your local JATC
    • Your company headquarters
    • A jobsite
    • NECA Chapter office
    Before meeting with your Member of Congress, get some background on their voting history and see how they score on NECA's scorecard

    What to ask for during your meeting:

    • Pension Reform: Provide Relief for Multiemployer Defined Benefit Pension Plans
    • Healthcare Reform: Exempt Multiemployer plans from the Transitional Reinsurance Fee Program of the Affordable Care Act
    • Tax Extenders: Support Renewal of Tax "Extenders" - a collection of over 50 different federal tax provisions that expired on 12/31/13.

    Chairman's Challenge:

    Earn participation points towards your PLC Chapter goal: Take a photo with your member of Congress after your meeting and send it to NECAGovtAffairs@necanet.org to qualify.

    Chairman’s Challenge: WV-OH Valley Meets Rep. Capito

    NECA hosted an event for Rep. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) who is running for Senate and members of NECA’s West Virginia-Ohio Valley Chapter traveled to Washington, D.C. to attend.

    Congressional Camp: Meet With Your Legislator During the August Recess

    As we head toward the back half of the summer, we are about the enter the period here in Washington DC known as the "August Recess.” Members of Congress call it their “District Summer Work Period." Let’s take them at their word. Take advantage of these next five weeks before Labor Day and the rush to the November elections to make our case for sound policy. Let your legislators know what NECA’s legislative priorities and concerns are for rest of this 113th Congress. There is no better opportunity to make your voice heard than now.

    Chairman’s Challenge: Kansas Chapter Meets Rep. Lynn Jenkins

    On June 30, Rep. Lynn Jenkins (R-KS) visited D.L. Smith Electrical Construction Inc. in Topeka to meet with members of the NECA Kansas Chapter.     Chairman's Challenge: Oregon-Columbia Meets Speaker Boehner

    On June 30, Members of NECA’s Oregon-Columbia Chapter attended an event for Rep. Greg Walden (R-OR) with special guest Speaker Boehner in Oregon.

    Chairman’s Challenge: Inland Empire Chapter Meets with Rep. McMorris Rodgers

    Inland Empire Chapter Manager Dave Chally and Chapter President David Peterson met with Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) in the district this week. NECA members in Washington have a long-standing relationship with Rep. McMorris Rodgers since she was elected to Congress in 2004. In 2012, Rep. McMorris Rodgers was elected to serve as Chairman of the Conference, the fourth highest-ranking position among House Republicans, making her the highest-ranking Republican woman in Congress. The group discussed many of NECA’s top issues, including the transitional reinsurance program of the Affordable Care Act.

    Western Ohio Chapter, NECA First to Take Part in Chairman's Challenge

    We are proud to announce that the Western Ohio Chapter is the first NECA chapter to take part in the 2014 Chairman’s Challenge and host a Member of Congress in the district! The Chapter will receive credit for this visit towards its ECPAC goal and is one step closer to receiving the Chairman’s Challenge award!
