On September 30, 2016, the Penn-Del-Jersey Chapter met with Pennsylvania State Representative Dwight Evans, the Democratic candidate for Pennsylvania’s 2nd Congressional District, at the Chapter office in Philadelphia. Evan’s congressional race is a special election to fill a vacant seat. This means that if he wins in November, which is almost guaranteed since Democrats make up about 90% of registered voters in that district, he will begin serving in Congress within six days. As a result, Evans is likely to be voting on legislation that is important to NECA during his first days in office.
During the meeting, the group discussed a number of NECA’s issues including the recently released discussion draft for congressional authorization of composite plan design for multiemployer pensions and the recently formed Bipartisan Building Trades Caucus started by Reps. Norcross and McKinley. Evans was receptive to all of NECA’s issues and understood that there would be plenty of work to do before the holidays if he is elected to serve. As an expert on transportation and appropriations measures in the Pennsylvania State House for over 3 decades, Evans will have valuable experience to help him quickly acclimate to Capitol Hill in the midst of a busy season.
