1. On August 24, 2015, the National Clean Energy Summit took place in Las Vegas, Nevada with “Powering Progress” as this year’s theme and President Obama as the keynote speaker. The Electrical JATC of Southern Nevada had a booth at the conference that displayed a “Top of Pole Mount Photovoltaic Array” rated at 1.92 kilowatts, along with an “Offgrid Photovoltaic Demonstrator with Battery Backup.” NECA was able to provide valuable information to the leaders in the clean energy industry through this display.
NECA’s Look Ahead: Representing the Southern Nevada Chapter NECA were Chapter Executive Don Campbell and Office Manager Tori Kolinski. In attendance from Bombard Electric were Operations Manager Bo Balzar, Residential Solar Project Manager Deidre Radford, Business Development Manager Farrow Smith, and General Foreman of Electrical Construction H. Michael Andrieu. From the Electrical JATC of Southern Nevada were Training Director Madison Burnett, Assistant Director Robert Buntjer, and Photovoltaic Instructor Guy Snow.
2. Congress is set to return to Washington on Tuesday to a deadline laden schedule.
3. Rep. John Kline (R-MN), chairman of the House Education and Workforce Committee, announced September 2 that he would not seek reelection in 2016. Rep. Kline, who was term limited as chairman of the Committee, is following the same path taken recently by other veteran Republicans term-limited out of their chairmanships.
NECA’s Look Ahead: Rep. Kline was instrumental in shepherding passage of the NECA-supported Multiemployer Pension Reform Act of 2014 and NECA will continue to work with Chairman Kline to help finish the job through the authorization of Composite Plans.
