Max Landon To Receive 2009 McGraw Award

The James H. McGraw Award is bestowed on a person adjudged to have contributed some new or useful idea to the electrical contracting industry or to have performed an industry service over and above normal responsibility to personal or company progress.  Over the past four decades, Max L. Landon, owner of McCoy Electric in Portland, Oregon, has worked tirelessly to improve our industry — locally, regionally, nationally and globally. Therefore, this award will be presented to him during NECA's National Convention, which will be held in conjunction with NECA 2009 Seattle in September.

Max Landon served in every leadership position in NECA’s Oregon-Columbia Chapter and on a number of committees where he performed a vital role with respect to labor negotiations, legislative affairs, and pension-trust oversight. He also served with distinction on several NECA national committees, including Government Affairs; the Codes & Standards Committee, which he chaired; and the Council on Industrial Relations, our industry’s unique arbitration body which he co-chaired.

Under his leadership as vice president of NECA District 6, contractors in the Northwest increased their contributions to the Electrical Construction Political Action Committee (ECPAC) by more than ten-fold. More importantly, he inspired each NECA chapter in the district to become pro-active in state legislative affairs.

As a 20-year trustee of the Edison Pension Plan, he spearheaded an arduous asset allocation study that has contributed dramatically to the plan’s overall success, even in these tough times.

In his latest venture, Mr. Landon is applying his vast experience as a volunteer in Peru with Bridges International. His involvement includes repair and installation of electrical systems in rural medical facilities and the construction of water purification systems.
