The second annual Energy Study Mission will be held March 15-16, 2017 at the University of California San Diego (UCSD), home to what is considered one of the world's most advanced microgrids. Registration for the meeting will open soon. Registration is capped at a maximum of 40 people. Last year's meeting sold out quickly, so please don't delay in registering.
The meeting will start at 1 p.m. March 15 and conclude at noon March 16. It will feature a curated tour, seminars, and group discussions relating to cutting-edge technologies utilized by the campus.
The UCSD microgrid project ;supplies electricity, heating, and cooling for the 450-hectare campus with a daily population of 45,000. It consists of two 13.5 MW gas turbines, one 3 MW steam turbine, and a 1.2 MW solar-cell installation that together supply 85% of campus electricity needs, 95% of its heating, and 95% of its cooling. The microgrid also features an ultra-clean and efficient cogeneration plant, the world’s largest commercial fuel cell, energy storage systems and a host of other technologies.
