NECA Future Leaders Program

Generational differences are a fact of life. They affect our culture, our families, our organizations, and our businesses. It is incumbent upon any successful business or organization, if it wishes to survive and prosper, to reach out to the next generation to cultivate its new leaders and generate new ideas. This is particularly true with NECA. NECA's structure tends to reward longevity and age. National leaders come from its chapter governors. Chapter governors are often elected from among members who have served on various chapter committees and in elected offices over many years. In recent years, NECA has made a conscious effort to encourage new and younger member contractors in chapter governance and national committees, largely through the NECA Future Leaders Program.

History

In 1990, NECA developed and presented its first Future Leaders Conference for new and emerging leaders of NECA's electrical contractor members. NECA's Executive Committee recognized that in order for the association to continue its leadership role in the electrical construction industry, it would have to prepare a cadre of young mid-career executives to assume the future leadership positions in their companies as well as in their local and national association.
