As leaders in the electrical industry in Chicago, our member firms employ over 4,000 electricians and perform the majority of the electrical construction work in the Chicago Metropolitan Area.

SERVICES PROVIDED BY ECA MEMBERS

Installation, maintenance, and upgrading of all types of electrical systems, from basic power and lighting, to the most sophisticated design applications, including: smart buildings, energy management and co-generation systems.

Many ECA members specialize in the fields of fire alarms, security systems, CATV, and telephone interconnect using the latest technology such as fiber optics.

PROJECTS DESIGNED, CONNECTED, AND OTHERWISE ELECTRIFIED BY ECA MEMBERS

O'Hare Field, Sears Tower, McCormick Place, Lake Point Towers, the John Hancock Building, the Prudential Building, and the Standard Oil Building are a few examples of major construction projects completed by ECA members.

In addition to these projects, ECA members are involved in a range of construction projects that are as diversified as the Chicago Metropolitan Area. These include: industrial plants, petrochemical facilities, schools, hospitals, shopping centers, apartment buildings, condominiums, office complexes, and single family homes.

By negotiating the industry's collective bargaining agreement for the Chicago Metropolitan area, and as the management representatives to the Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee, ECA helps to guarantee the availability of skilled, well-trained electricians. This qualified workforce allows ECA members to move quickly on new projects and to serve customers more cost-effectively.

ECA SUPPORTS MEMBERS THROUGH EDUCATIONAL AND INFORMAL SERVICES

ECA represents and serves its members in many ways:

We work with a joint arbitration board to manage our industry's collective bargaining agreement, including our apprentice and journeymen training programs.
We work with local code bodies, keeping our members up-to-date on matters affecting their services to customers.
We help our members maintain and improve their operations through educational and training programs for contractors.
We are leaders in a variety of industry groups. For instance, we are active members of the Construction Employers Association, the Illinois Mechanical & Specialty Contractors Association, the Electric Association, and the Construction Industry Affairs Committee.
We are the Chicago and Cook County Chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association. ECA makes all of the services of the national organization available to our members.
We serve as liaison to government agencies such as OSHA, and the OFCCP, keeping members informed of the latest governmental regulations affecting their construction projects.
Our office serves as an information warehouse where contractors can obtain information on just about any topic affecting the electrical construction industry.
We provide safety training programs which help to improve jobsite efficiency, keep jobsite accidents to a minimum, and help keep employers' operating costs down.
By using these services, ECA members are able to run safer and healthier projects and operate more efficiently, which ultimately helps contractors control customer costs.
