That is the underlying principle which guides the members of the Boston Chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association in serving their customers. From design to installation to testing to service NECA contractors and their highly trained electricians and technicians are unsurpassed for innovation, project management, reliability, and technical expertise.
The Boston Chapter, NECA was incorporated as the Electrical Contractors Association of Greater Boston in 1933 and chartered by NECA in 1944. The Association now represents over 70 electrical and telecommunication contractors in greater Boston, Maine and New Hampshire. Services the Chapter provides its members include:
Labor Relations The Association represents its members in contract negotiations and administration with IBEW Locals 103 (Boston), 490 (New Hampshire), 567 (Southern Maine) and 1253 (Northern Maine).
Government Relations The Association represents the interests of its members nationally, through its support of ECPAC and NECA’s Action Team, and locally through its active involvement in legislative and regulatory issues.
Industry Relations The Association is an active participant on the Massachusetts Council of Construction Employers, the Associated Subcontractors Association, the Massachusetts Construction Industry Council, the New England Construction Users Council, the Mass. Building Council and the New England Safety Council as well as being an active Chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association.
Training The Association supports apprentice, journeyman, and technician training through representation on Joint Apprentice and Training Committees with the IBEW. The Chapter also provides a variety of management development programs for contractors.
Marketing The Association offers marketing support to its members by providing marketing materials, sponsoring training programs, conducting marketing studies, promotion of the "NECA Connection" contractor referral database, and by supporting the Contractor-Utility Partnership Program (CUPP).
Safety The Association provides information on changing OSHA regulations and provides its members with a wealth of low and no-cost NECA safety materials and publications.
Public Relations The Association is an ardent promoter of the "Quality Connection" and, in conjunction with the IBEW, supports numerous area community projects.
The Electrical Contracting Foundation By virtue of its $100,000 commitment to the Foundation, the Association’s Governor sits on the policy making Electri21 Council. All Foundation research publications are available to Association members at no cost.
Trust Funds The Association helps ensure Contractor contributions to fringe benefit plans are used wisely and efficiently through representation on local trust funds. The Association’s Chapter Manger also acts as the collection trustee for the National Electrical Benefit Fund.
Information The Association keeps its members informed on industry events through monthly Chapter and Divisional meetings, Chapter and National Newsletters, direct mailings, Electrical Contractor Magazine, and support of NECANet.
Telecommunications Since the advent of deregulation, the Association has been a leading advocate of promoting contractors in the Telecommunications contracting industry. The Association negotiated landmark collective bargaining agreements with the IBEW and helped develop a comprehensive four-year apprenticeship program, the first such program registered with the federal government. Partnerships The Boston Chapter, NECA has strived since its inception to develop partnerships to benefit its membership and their customers. The partnership between NECA and the IBEW has been delivering quality to its customers for 100 years.
