NECA Top Three 8/25/17

Aug 24, 2017

1. On August 15, President Donald Trump issued an executive order “Establishing Discipline and Accountability in the Environmental Review and Permitting Process for Infrastructure.”

NECA’s Look Ahead: The executive order seeks to reduce permitting time by having one agency take the lead on each project’s approval process and establishes a review process that holds agencies accountable. The executive order also repealed President Obama’s Executive Order 13690, the Federal Flood Risk Management Standard (FFRMS), which requires that any new federally funded infrastructure projects in a flood plain must first and foremost consider and mitigate flood disaster risk. NECA supports this executive order and any action that expedites federal permitting and agency accountability.

2. NECA submitted a letter and four statements from NECA chapters to Secretary Lisa R. Barton of the U.S. International Trade Commission concerning the Section 201 Petition on Crystalline Silicon Photovoltaic Cells and Modules.

NECA’s Look Ahead: A final ruling on the case is excepted later in September with a final decision in the hands of President Trump, who must decide by November.  As the U.S. International Trade Commission examines the case, NECA will continue to advocate our opposition to the import relief requested with the ITC, Members of Congress, and the Administration.

3. This week is the last chance to schedule a meeting with your Members of Congress before the end of the August Recess.

NECA’s Look Ahead: With the end of August fast approaching NECA Government affairs would like to remind members that if they would like to set up a meeting with their Member of Congress, they have one week to do so. If it is not possible to meet with your members of Congress before the end of August, they will be back home September 15-24, which is the perfect time to invite your Representative to a training center or jobsite.
