Miller Electric Company Awards Scholarships in Family Enterprise at Stetson University

Nov 04, 2013

Miller Electric Company will be awarding scholarships to Stetson University students affiliated with NECA or with personal ties to the construction industry, starting with the 2013-2014 school year. Students who are connected to NECA through family will be given primary consideration for the Miller Electric Company Scholarships in Family Enterprise. Secondary consideration will be given to non-NECA, construction-affiliated students.

Henry Brown, CEO of Miller Electric Company, is committed to encouraging NECA family businesses to grow. He has backed up his commitment with a personal promise to fund two $2,500 scholarships at Stetson University annually. “I would strongly recommend Stetson to any next generation NECA contractor looking to enter their family business. Their family business can teach them the technical skills they need, but the major in Family Enterprise will give them the broad business education, and more importantly, character development that they will need in their career,” said Brown.

Brown is a Stetson alumnus and has served as a member of the Executive Advisory Board for the university’s Family Enterprise Center for many years.

Stetson University has participated in NECA programs through ELECTRI International and management education initiatives. Greg McCann, Executive Director for the Family Enterprise Center, and his colleague Michelle DeMoss, recently finalized a project with the Foundation to examine the family business profile of NECA members titled Generating Sucess:  An Exploration of the Issues Facing the Electrical Construction Industry Through the Lens of Family Business

McCann has also served as a speaker at NECA events, including NECA Now.

“I am strong proponent of bringing diversity of thought, education, and experience to the electrical contracting industry,” Brown said. “I think this scholarship for next generation NECA members works toward that goal.”
