John M. Grau

National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA)
John M. Grau is the Chief Executive Officer for the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA). NECA is the major trade association for the $100 billion U.S. electrical industry, and its members are organized into 119 local chapters and 12 international chapters. The national staff is headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland, and in four regional offices around the country.
Mr. Grau became NECA’s chief staff officer in April 1986. Previously, he was Executive Vice President of the Milwaukee Chapter, NECA, and served as a field representative associate with the NECA Western Region. Prior to joining NECA, Mr. Grau was a realty specialist for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in Washington, D.C.
Mr. Grau is Vice Chairman of ELECTRI International – The Foundation for Electrical Construction, Inc., and serves on the Boards of the Electrical Safety Foundation International and the Plan for the Settlement of Jurisdictional Disputes in the Construction Industry. He is co-chair of the National Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for the Electrical Industry, a program that dedicates over $110 million annually on worker training. Mr. Grau is also a trustee of the Helmets to Hardhats program and a corporate member of Underwriters Laboratories, Chicago.
Mr. Grau is a member of the U. S. Chamber of Commerce Associations Committee of 100 and the American Society of Association Executives, where he has served on several committees. In 1986, Mr. Grau was inducted as a Fellow of the Academy of Electrical Contracting. He is listed in Who’s Who in America.
A native of St. Joseph, Michigan, Mr. Grau holds a bachelors degree in business administration from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and attended the MBA program at Marquette University. He is married to Kristine Sweeney. They have one son, Brendan, and live in Bethesda, Maryland.
