Valley Electrical Consolidated, Inc. (VEC) was founded in 1976. Rex Ferry purchased the company in 1990 and has been owner/president since then. Under Ferry’s leadership the company regularly employs 200 to 250 electricians and has 39 in-house staff. VEC is a complete electrical systems integrator company, providing the following services: design-build, VDV (voice, data, and video), infrared thermography, residential, commercial and industrial. In 2003 VEC purchased Evets Electric which specializes in the distribution systems for the gas and oil industry. Combined today VEC/Evets services the Eastern and Southern parts of the United States in all phases of the electrical industry. Together the combined sales have grown over $40 million dollars for 2007 and should continue going forward.
Ferry spent four years in the IBEW apprenticeship program (Local 573 Warren, OH). For 16 years he worked as Journeyman wireman, Foreman and General Foreman in the field for various local contractors. He served in leadership for the IBEW as Recording Secretary and E-Board member for Local 573 for 6 years.
Additionally, he took advantage of many of the educational programs offered by NECA. Prior to purchasing VEC and going into business for himself, Ferry worked in all areas of the electrical construction industry.
VEC has been a NECA member since 1976, and Ferry has been extremely active with NECA at the local and national levels. He has served as treasurer, vice president, president, and governor of the NECA Mahoning Valley Chapter. On the national level, he has served on NECA’s Management Development Committee and is a member of the ELECTRI’ International Council. Ferry has served on the JATC, Negotiations and Pension committees as well. From 2003-2006, he served as the District 2 Vice President on the NECA Executive Committee.
According to Ferry, the most valuable advantage to his NECA membership are the opportunities to network with fellow members and the information provided by the Electrical Contracting Foundation. He has attended NECA’s Executive Management Institute (EMI) and found it very helpful in honing his management skills. VEC has sent all of its key management to EMI including his 2 daughters and son-in-law. VEC/Evets is a family business with 2 daughters, one son-in-law, 1 niece, and 5 nephews that work for the firms.
Ferry has been married to Mary, his high school sweetheart, for 36 years. They have two daughters, Tricia Ferry and Rachel Barber. Son-in-law Jeff Barber is a RCDD and is Vice President of the VDV division. The Ferry’s have three grandchildren, Elizabeth, Madison and Nathan. Ferry and his wife love traveling and playing golf.
