AES Lights Up Louisville 2nd Street Bridge

What do Louisville and Paris have in common? Both cities are now using the same lighting technology the illuminate their steel-structure landmarks. In Paris, it’s the Eiffel Tower, but for Louisville’s 2nd Street Bridge and Streetscape, the project has needs beyond enhancing the night skyline.

NECA member company Advanced Electrical Systems Inc., was selected to install the lighting system that added both security and beauty to the downtown streetscape. The project was funded by the ARRA stimulus program, which called for a fast track and economical design concept and solution.

The streetscape area was a service road combined with adjacent vacant land running alongside the George Rogers Clark Memorial Bridge.  The cantilevered truss bridge, locally known as 2nd Street bridge, crosses the Ohio River between Kentucky and Indiana. The bridge is in the National Register of Historic Places.
