John M. Grau is the Chief Executive Officer for the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA). NECA is the major trade association for the $130 billion U.S. electrical industry, and its members are organized into 119 local chapters and 13 international chapters. The national staff is headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland, and in four regional offices around the country.
Mr. Grau became NECA’s chief staff officer in April 1986. Previously, he was Executive Vice President of the Milwaukee Chapter, NECA, and served as a field representative associate with the NECA Western Region. Prior to joining NECA, Mr. Grau was a realty specialist for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in Washington, D.C.

Mr. Grau is Co-Trustee of the $18 billion National Electrical Benefit Fund and the National Electrical Annuity Plan. He is Treasurer of ELECTRI International -- The Foundation for the Electrical Construction Industry, and co-chair of the Board of Trustees for the electrical training ALLIANCE, a program that has served as the training arm of the IBEW and NECA for over 73 years. Mr. Grau is also a Corporate Member of the Underwriters Laboratories, Chicago. Currently, he servers as chair of the Board of the Small Business Legislative Council, a coalition of trade associations representing small business interests.
Mr. Grau is a member of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Associations Committee of 100 and the American Society of Association Executives, where he as served on several committees. In 1986, Grau was inducted as a Fellow of the Academy of Electrical Contracting. In 2012 Grau received the Outstanding Service Award from the Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFi), where he was a long time board member.
A Native of Michigan, Mr. Grau holds a bachelor degree in business administration from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and attended the MBA program at Marquette University.
