National Competition for Electrical Professionals Returns for Second Year

Apr 14, 2017

National Electrical Contractors Association member contractors are encouraged to enter the second annual IDEAL National Championship, a growing competition that works to honor and showcase the abilities of industry professionals, students and apprentices from across the country.

IMG_2204The second annual IDEAL National Championship was announced Jim James, Chairman and CEO of family-owned Ideal Industries, Inc. The company is a longtime supporter of NECA and the IBEW, having committed to a five-year partnership with the electrical training ALLIANCE in 2015.

IDEAL Electrical, a leader in electrical tools and wire termination, said it will begin the competition with a series of qualifying round events where winners (with the fastest times from each of 63 territories) are awarded with tool kits and an opportunity to compete in ‘The Championship Weekend’ at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort in Lake Buena Vista, FL. In the qualifying rounds, contestants will need to demonstrate both their mental problem-solving and physical skills across five categories: pulling wire, cutting, stripping, termination and testing – through a speed test judged by fastest completion time and overall accuracy of the wire connection.

Electrical professionals, students and apprentices can participate (as an individual or team of three) in one of many qualifying-round events being held by electrical distributors, trade schools and other organizations in the U.S.

How It Works:

Now through October 1, participants can register online at IDEALnationals.com. The competition will be divided into two categories: professionals and students/apprentices. Each will fill out their own registration form and have the option to compete as an individual or as part of a team.
